Beacon House: a hatching of a different kind
Today at Beacon House the Culinary Unit prepared a scrumptious omelet. The omelet was covered with shredded mozzarella and sharp cheddar cheeses. Inside each omelet was an array of vegetables from our own garden including tomatoes and green peppers. The red peppers were store bought, along with the bacon and sausage. The eggs came directly from the hens, by way of Kroger. There were cinnamon buns that were delicious bite size morsels and seedless grapes. The beverages offered for lunchtime were orange juice and apple juice.
During our meal the ambiance was the sounds of 101.3, 2 WD, soft rock. The station I would have selected, it was perfect! The mood was easy going. The palates of each and everyone who partook in the meal were satisfied!
No Limits, 8/20/10
Oh no! We had a flood! It’ll be okay but it sure was messy. Check it out – the water kept coming & coming. It ended up hitting the opposite wall of the building.
In other news, we did our last blueberry run of the season which was actually William’s very first trip to the fruit farm in Hacks Neck. We’re not sure how he managed to miss every trip we took there but he did. It was crazy hot and the mosquitoes were evil but we got plenty of berries…we need them to make “breakfast for lunch” on 8/31/10. Have a great weekend & stay cool everyone!
Fire Safety Improvement at Beacon House 8/19/2010
A fire safety expert came to Beacon House and helped us upgrade our fire safety. We got new fire extinguishers and a special “Fire Stop” device for the stove! It hangs over the burners and if flames hit it, it explodes and dumps foam onto the fire automatically. We also got special EXIT signs that stay lit if the power goes off and even have emergency lights that go on so that people can find their way in a fire and smoke.
Here’s a picture of the little Firestop canisters that hang over the stove:

At Beacon House, David has a magic shirt!! 8/16/2010
David has this fascinating shirt. He received it from his family’s best friends in Florida. They always manage to buy David the most extraordinary gifts, whether it be music, movies, or what ever, as you can see:
Beacon House Fishing Trip 06/30/2010
11 People from beacon house went fishing on the pier June 30, 2010.
10 People caught fish and the trip was very refreshing! It was a beautiful day, nice and cool. Being around other people made it exciting. It was my first time being at a Virginia Beach fishing pier. The fish were plentiful and everyone caught one but me! I almost did but it got away. People were smiling and enjoying themselves, birds were flying around very low! Some of the best varieties of fish are in the ocean. Matt Buckley caught the first fish, the biggest fish, the smallest fish and the last fish. And lets not forget the sock he caught!!
