Beacon House, February 2, 2012 Visit to our lawmakers in Richmond. by Amanda M.
On February 2, 2012, some of the Beacon House members, staff and some family members went to Richmond to speak to the Virginia lawmakers about supporting the budget amendment for the Brain Injury Community in Virginia and how important it is to help the people with brain injury. We walked office to office telling them what we do here at the Beacon House and how the Beacon House has helped each and every one of us with our disabilities . We also talked to them about if they did cut the budget amendment it would mean that there would not be a place for some people like us to go to. We met with Delegate Ware; he was very nice and kind and welcoming to us. I told him about the brain injury I have and how much the Beacon House has helped me since I started going there. We took a very luxurious Blackhawk bus up there and on the way, we picked up more people from Denbigh House, a clubhouse on the peninsula. The trip up there and back was enjoyable because we got to have fun with each other, watched movies, and we had snacks and drinks, too! On the way back home we stopped and had lunch at McDonalds. Here we all are with our bus!
