We have been really busy lately and haven’t blogged much, sorry! But we are still here!

Mmmm mmmm. Wayne brought us cider and apples, thanks Wayne! And Maryann (the Chef Boyardee lady around here) showed us how to make them.

Oh Joe! He didn't catch anything either. We went to the pier in Cape Charles.

Nobody caught anything but we had fun. Except maybe Lewis caught a cold!

We watched some awesome kite surfing. Out there where Jaws is at.

Senator Yvonne Miller, of District 5, joined Beacon House for lunch Friday, September 2, 2011! Lunch was prepared by our culinary unit—cheeseburgers and baked beans! In addition to her pleasant conversation, she was quite a character—she loved being photographed! She was quite friendly and kissed a few people on the cheek, and gave them warm wishes. We extended an invitation to her to come for lunch in the future.

August 31, 2011, Beacon House went to the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center

We went through all the exhibits which have been upgraded in recent years. There were many sea animals—manta rays, sea horses, sharks, whales, seals, turtles, snails, alligators, octopus, jelly fish, crabs, sand dollars, and so many different kinds of fish. To give the ambiance of an island, sounds of the ocean and birds were played around the exhibits. One section was surrounded by tanks, and along with the unlevel paths, I felt as though I was drifting underwater. A part of the exhibit was made of glass, with animals swimming above us and around us, like we were actually in the aquarium.

August 19, 2011 Beacon House rides The Tide

BH members rode on the Tide—the new Light Rail, for a bit this morning. In actuality, we rode to Eastern Virginia Medical Center—and immediately returned. We did not take the time to visit the many shops, we were too anxious to return to Beacon House to enjoy our Culinary Units’ delicious pasta lunch! The meal was fantastic, however, next time we should try a few of the tasty shops!
The ride was intriguing, conversation with everyone else was memorable. I should have followed the guidance that another rider was giving his son: follow the pamphlet to be aware of my stop!—I did not follow the pamphlet, and when my stop came sooner than I expected, exiting the train was a task, to say the least!
There were many riders in the back of the Light Rail that were mocking the experience one receives when they are on a long-distance car trip with their family. I didn’t even notice them until the trip was almost over!

Beacon House Beautifies our Park August 11, 2011

Beacon House has adopted a park! Once a month, several members go to Thalia Community Park and pick up trash. We do our bit to better the community! When I went to pick up trash, there was not much on the ground. As a matter of fact, we had a contest to see who could gather the most trash. I was doing well, until Larry cheated—he looked into the trash can and pulled out stuff!

The park was beautiful, and there were many birds and other animals just waiting for a place to build a home! The park would be a wonderful place for animals and humans alike to enjoy nature. The importance of maintaining our parks cannot be stressed enough—Beacon House to the rescue! Thanks to our volunteers, we have earned a sign acknowledging our efforts to keep the park beautiful!
